Willy
Deus.

Driven by faith.
Defined by resilience.

More than
a golfer.

Willy Deus Kitata is a Ugandan professional golfer competing internationally—but the story behind his game began long before he ever held a club.

At six years old, Willy's life changed forever. After repeated violence and threats from his stepfather, he left home and spent much of his childhood surviving on the streets. He raised himself from the time he was six until he was fifteen, working wherever he could and learning early that survival depended on resilience.

He cared for other people's animals in exchange for food and attended school only when he could earn enough money to pay for it. Each day required resourcefulness, discipline, and faith. Those years shaped the gratitude, toughness, and quiet determination that still define him today.

A place
to feel safe.

At 13, while working as a ball boy for two girls who played tennis, Willy noticed the golf course next door. A friend who worked there as a caddie invited him over. Willy picked up a golf club for the first time—and, in that moment, discovered something that had been missing from much of his childhood: happiness.

He began caddying, but access to the game was never guaranteed. On Mondays, when the club was closed, he and the other caddies had a chance to play. With no equipment of his own and only three clubs available among them, Willy gambled the money he had earned caddying for the chance to use one of those clubs.

Golf became more than a sport. It became his safe place—a space where his past did not define him and where focus, discipline, and belief could shape what came next.

From caddie
to champion.

Willy entered his first tournament at 15. By 16, he had earned a place on Uganda's National Team. He went on to represent his country internationally and became a team leader and captain—carrying the Ugandan flag into competition across borders.

Before turning professional, Willy won 22 amateur tournaments. His victories included the Kenya Match Play Open, the Eskom Open, back-to-back Burundi Open titles in 2013 and 2014, and the 2014 Uganda Amateur Open—one of the defining achievements of his amateur career.

The boy who once watched golfers from the edge of a course had become one of Uganda's leading players.

Talent was
never the limit.

Willy moved to Palm Beach, Florida, to pursue professional golf at a higher level. Since then, his career has taken him across the United States, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East as he has competed for opportunities on some of the game's most demanding pathways.

His greatest obstacle has rarely been talent. Professional golf requires enormous financial resources: entry fees, travel, lodging, coaching, equipment, and weeks away from paid work. Willy has repeatedly caddied to fund his own career, sometimes qualifying for major opportunities—or coming within a single shot—without having the resources required to continue.

Still, he keeps showing up. In 2026, he captured his maiden Sunshine Development Tour–East Africa Swing title at Thika Greens, finishing five under par after rounds of 68, 68, and 72. The victory was proof of what has always been true: when Willy has the opportunity to compete, he belongs.

Purpose in
every round.

Willy is still pursuing the highest levels of professional golf—but his purpose extends beyond a scorecard.

He wants his journey to show young athletes, especially children across Africa, that their beginnings do not have to determine their futures. He hopes to use golf to create opportunity, expand access to the game, and inspire the next generation to believe that even the most unlikely path can lead somewhere extraordinary.

Whether he is competing on tour, speaking with business leaders, or encouraging young golfers, Willy represents excellence, resilience, faith, and global possibility.
